Graceland, Home of Elvis Presley - Parts 3 and 4

This is the wall that runs along the front of Graceland property. Every square inch is covered with scribblings of Elvis lovers.

A jet that Elvis bought and named after his daughter, Lisa Marie, is across the street from Graceland.

A postcard of Lisa Marie the jet, not the daughter. :)

Graceland, Home of Elvis Presley - Part 2

The famous gates of Graceland as they look today.

Two postcards featuring the gates.
I like this one here with Elvis actually in the picture.

Graceland, Home of Elvis Presley - Part 1

For those still in the afterglow of Elvis Presley's 80th Birthday 2/3 Month, I have great news, MORE Elvis shtuff is here!....

Last week, I made a brief stop at Graceland and snapped a few photos... A view from the street is as close as you can get without boarding a tour bus.

Here are a couple Graceland postcards for comparison...

This one looks to be from its heyday of Elvis living there.

This one shows the plaque stating that Graceland has been placed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Million Dollar Quartet Postcard, Part 2

Soooo, back on January 21, I posted this postcard as part of my Elvis Presley 80th Birthday 2/3 Month celebration.

Then, just a few days ago, I get an email advertising a broadway show called "Million Dollar Quartet".  Whaaaat?!

Apparently I live under a rock, because I did not know that for the past several years there has been a hit broadway show all about the Million Dollar Quartet!!  Pretty cool!

Sadly (or happily, your choice), we have reached the end of Elvis' 80th Birthday 2/3 Month.

I have learned a lot about Elvis Presley's life and career this past 2/3 month. I also learned that I have a boat load of Elvis postcards. :)

Please feel free to check back in 20 years for Elvis' 100th Birthday FULL Month! :)

Elvis the King of Rock N Roll Postcard

Tick, tick, tick...only 4 days left of Elvis' 80th Birthday 2/3 Month!

Look at that, not one person is holding up an iPhone snapping pictures or taking videos!

Elvis The King Postcard

Whew. This is a long month, isn't it? Still have 5 days left of Elvis' 80th Birthday 2/3 Month.

Elvis Presley, The King, one of the most significant cultural icons of the 20th century.

This photo reminds me of Jimmy Fallon's tight pants song. :D

Elvis Movie Postcard

Day..um ...I don't  know... of Elvis' 80th Birthday 2/3 Month....

Elvis the actor. Apparently, there wasn't much this guy couldn't do!

He starred in Girls! Girls! Girls!, a 1962 musical comedy movie, which was nominated for Best Motion Picture - Musical at the Golden Globes.

His song, "Return to Sender", is featured in the movie.

Elvis Favorite Food Postcard

Here we go with Day 11 of Elvis' 80th Birthday 2/3 Month!

We all know the PB&J, right?  Well, this is the PB&B, one of Elvis' favorite foods, peanut butter and banana sandwiches.

I don't think I could eat one of those things even if Elvis himself made it and handed it to me on a solid gold plate. :)

"The Million Dollar Quartet" Postcard

Day 10, only 11 days to go!

On Dec 4, 1956, Elvis made a surprise visit to Sun Record Studios in Memphis, TN, resulting in an impromptu jam session with Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Johnny Cash. Sam Phillips taped the session and the result was "The Million Dollar Quartet", which nowadays would be "The 8.7 Million Dollar Quartet". :)

TV Room at Graceland, Home of Elvis Presley Postcard

Continuing with Elvis' 80th Birthday 2/3 Month:

The "TV Room" at Graceland consisted of 3 tvs side by side, a pull down movie screen, jukebox, Elvis' personal record collection and a lightning bolt w/TCB painted on the wall. "Taking Care of Business in a Flash" was Elvis' personal credo.

Elvis invented the "man cave"! :)

Graceland, Home of Elvis Presley, Postcard

Continuing Elvis' 80th Birthday 2/3 Month....

Graceland, in Memphis, Tennessee, was the home of Elvis and family members from 1957 through 1993, even though Elvis died in 1977.

And yet again, I must say that the before, during and after story of Elvis and Graceland is very interesting. :)

Elvis Presley Army Postcard

Continuing Elvis' 80th Birthday 2/3 Month....

Elvis served in the US Army from March 1958 through March 1960. Again, the entire story of before, during and after his military service is truly fascinating.

Elvis - Heartbreak Hotel Postcard

Continuing Elvis' 80th Birthday 2/3 Month...

"Heartbreak Hotel" released January 27, 1956. Interesting back story about Elvis and the song.

In 2004, Rolling Stone magazine named it one of the "500 Greatest Songs of All Time".

Also in 2004, it was included in Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's "500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll".

Elvis Meets President Nixon Postcard

Continuing Elvis' 80th Birthday 2/3 Month...

On December 21, 1970, Elvis requested and was granted a meeting with President Nixon.

I never knew the back story of this meeting, it's bizarre! There are plenty of write-ups about it on the internet, if you're interested.
