Happy 130th Anniversary, Ms. Statue of Liberty!

130 years ago today yesterday, (June 17, 1885) the Statue of Liberty arrived in New York harbor...in pieces.

She was slowly and painstakingly assembled, and finally dedicated on October 28, 1886.

Thank you, France!

Bevo Mill, St. Louis, Missouri

It would be cool if this was a postcard, wouldn't it?  But it's not, it's just a photo I snapped a few days ago.

This is the Bevo Mill, a well known landmark in St. Louis, Missouri. It was constructed in 1916 by August Busch, Sr.

I predict some sort of 100th anniversary celebration next year. :)

Cross Postcard

This cross can't be missed when driving through Effingham, Illinois. It's HUGE!

Fun facts:
*198 ft.(61m) height
*113 ft. arm span
*848 yards of concrete in footing
*33+ tons of reinforced steel footing in foundation
*180+ tons of steel in structure
*official dedication in September 2001
*19 million estimated travelers pass by annually

This is a view of the cross from I-70, as seen through a dirty windshield. :)
