Florida Rest Area Review

Here it is, short and sweet: The rest area on I-10 in Pensacola gets two big thumbs up from me.

"Why?," you ask. Well, because in addition to shiny clean restrooms and vending machines, it has this fantastic display of a Blue Angel jet in flight!

And because if aviation just doesn't do it for you, then there's ample colorful flowering bushes to brighten the day of even the grumpiest of travelers.

And finally, because the state of Florida cares about us,  and wants us to stretch our weary legs by taking an enjoyable 0.256 mile hike around the rest area perimeter on the "Stretch Your Legs Trail".

It makes you want to jump in the car and head there right now, doesn't it? :)

Big Fish On A Stick

I kinda have a thing for oddball roadside attractions. There, I said it. So, this giant fishy got me all excited when I found it in Clarks Grove, Minnesota!

It's a big ol' walleye.
It's fiberglass.
It's 35 years old.
It's had numerous random stickers slapped on it, over the years, by other passersby.
It's so very PERFECT! :)

Vacation

Quick! Name the first 1983 screwball comedy movie starring Chevy Chase that pops in your head when you look at this pic.

::::waiting::::

Time's up!
Yes!  National Lampoon's Vacation!

I love that movie. :)

Maple Nut Goodies

Maple Nut Goodies.
This is my all-time favorite road trip snack.
The "reclosable package" feature on this bag makes me laugh because once the bag is opened, it does not ever get closed up again for later. :)

Alaska Bear Back Scratcher Postcard

I used to do this on road trips until I found out stores sold smaller-sized back scratchers. Ha ha!

Thank, Denise, for this card that has all the makings of a perfect postcard, imho: animals, highway signage, mountains and humor.

And...GO CARDINALS!

World's Largest Rocking Chair, Cuba, Missouri

This past week, I was cruisin' through the area of Cuba, Missouri, so I stopped by for a revisit. I'm a sucker for anything that's advertised as the "World's Largest".  :)

The rocking chair is located on the premises of  Fanning 66 Outpost. It is packed with Route 66 souvenirs, postcards, t-shirts, etc.

It's well worth a stop if you ever find yourself on I-44 in the eastern side of Missouri!
