Elvis served in the US Army from March 1958 through March 1960. Again, the entire story of before, during and after his military service is truly fascinating.

Scottish Pipeband Postcard

At first glance, I thought these were the mean ol' guards from the wicked witch's castle in the Wizard of Oz movie. (see picture below. There's a resemblance, right?)  :)

BUT, this is, actually, a traditional Scottish pipeband performing at Traquair House (the oldest continually inhabited house, dating back to 1107) in Scotland!

Memorial Day 2012

In honor of Memorial Day, I'm sharing photos of a statue I came across in Cuero, Texas earlier this year.

The statue commemorates Master Sergeant Raul (Roy) Perez Benavidez, who received the Medal of Honor for actions in combat during the Vietnam War.

 I did not know of the life and times of this remarkably heroic man until I looked up more information about him on the internet.
