Happy 130th Anniversary, Ms. Statue of Liberty!

130 years ago today yesterday, (June 17, 1885) the Statue of Liberty arrived in New York harbor...in pieces.

She was slowly and painstakingly assembled, and finally dedicated on October 28, 1886.

Niagara Falls Before Dark

It only makes sense that since I did a "Niagara Falls After Dark" post, I should also do a "Niagara Falls BEFORE Dark" post. :)

Niagara Falls After Dark

Happy Thanksgiving to all celebrating today! And happy Thursday to everyone else! :)

Here's another nice card from the recent NY trip. Niagara Falls, the collective name of American Falls, Bridal Veil Falls and Canadian Falls, that lie on the international border between USA and Canada.

I was fortunate enough to squeeze in a quick night time stop at the Falls, while on the NY trip. It was my first time to get a night view. I was somewhat disappointed because there's not much that can be seen, really. The best view of the colored lights illuminating the Falls are definitely over on the Canadian side.

However, I still got plenty wet from the heavy spray in the air, and the roar of the rushing water was loud and clear! So, there's that. :)

Times Square Postcard

More New York! Don't you love it?! Times Square, I've never been there.

It's the site of the annual ball drop on New Year's Eve. On tv, the huge crowd always makes it look like it's great fun to stand shoulder to shoulder in freezing temps for hours waiting for midnight to arrive.  Only 37 days until those goofballs do it again!

Obscure Fun Fact: Every time I see the Empire State Building, I think of one of my favorite movies, "Sleepless In Seattle".  I know it's a chick flick, but I don't care. I like the tag line for the movie: "What if someone you never met, someone you never saw, someone you never knew was the only someone for you?"

Freedom Tower Postcard

Another great card from my recent trip to NY.

Freedom Tower is 104 stories and a symbolic 1,776 feet tall. (year of the U.S. Declaration of Independence)

"Window washing the Freedom Tower is exciting and fun!", said no one, ever.

Autumn in New York Postcard

I found, (and bought, of course!) a bunch of really nice cards on a recent trip to...guess where?  Yes! New York!

The leaves have already peaked out in NY for this year, but this card is a nice reminder of the beautiful fall foliage that can be found there.

I Love Lucy, Part 2

Two more impressive murals!

This one features another episode from the "I Love Lucy" tv show, entitled "Lucy Does a TV Commercial".

The episode goes like this:
During multiple takes for a commercial, Lucy must repeatedly taste the product called Vitameatavegamin , a nutritional elixir.  The results are pretty hilarious.

Here's a full color postcard featuring an almost, but not quite, identical scene as the mural.

This next black and white mural is of Lucy and Ricky, again, of the "I Love Lucy" tv show.  Lucille Ball (Lucy) and Desi Arnaz (Ricky) not only played a married couple on tv, but were married to each other in real life, also.

I Love Lucy, Part 1

I recently visited the hometown Lucille Ball in Jamestown, New York. So, I have some cool goodies to share!

First off, there are several great murals scattered about town, all related to the "I Love Lucy" tv show (1951-1957).

This one here is wonderfully gigantic. It's in full color (even though the show itself was in black & white), and features a scene from the 1955 "California, Here We Come" episode.

 Here is a black-and-white postcard of the same scene for comparison. Pretty good reproduction!

Lake Champlain Ferry Ride

I needed to get from Vermont to New York. Not knowing the area, I found out that a ferry ride across Lake Champlain was necessary. Having lived a mostly ferry-less life, I was excited about it! Call me nerdy, if you must.

After paying for a ticket/boarding pass, I learned that each vehicle is assigned a lane to wait in.
I was feeling pretty important because I got one entire lane all to myself.

I waited anxiously. And then.....There it was! The loaded ferry from New York was closing in on the docking area.

After getting parked on the ferry, I followed the instructions on the sign, because... well... let's face it, I'm not a rebel.

I stood outside and took pictures like any good, nerdy tourist would do.

I watched the zig-zaggy route that the ferry took through the chunky icy waters on my GPS device. Who wouldn't? Right??

And finally, the ferry safely arrived in New York.
And I drove back onto solid ground in search of another nerdy adventure. :)

Outgoing "Judge Each Man By His Actions" Postcard

Regina in Oregon, USA, had listed "peace related cards" as one of her interests. I figured a card featuring 10 people of mixed age, gender and race all sitting together, and all holding up the peace sign was pretty darned peace related, so off it went!

The back of the card simply said "NEW YORK CITY, 1993".

I really don't like to just slap on any random stamps on postcards. Matching stamps to interests, too, is a part of the enjoyment of postcarding for me.
These stamps matched some of her interests, also.

Charlie didn't have any particular requests. I had just been in New York, so I picked this beautiful night view to send to her.
