Holiday Postcard from Finland

This wonderful holiday card is from Jaana! Even though the Finland postal service was on strike when she mailed it, the postcard made it here with no problem. :)

Thanks very much, Jaana!

Beautiful holiday stamps.

Canada Winter Scene Postcard

Just got a Canadian winter surprise to help take my mind off of the summer heat! (It's a comfy 22C/71F up north, according to the back of the card. I'm a bit envious!)

I had this card in my Postcrossing favorites and  I'm sending big thanks to Brenda for spotting it and so very kindly sending it on a flight south! Thanks so much, Brenda, I love it, front and back. :)

LOOK at these cool hockey and flowers...annnnd.....BASEBALL stamps!! :) :) :)

Thanks very much, Gerda. :)

Cardinal in Winter

I snapped a pic of this hardy cardinal by the bird feeders, recently. I'm so glad that they stick around, along with some other birds, during the cold months. It's nice to see such vibrant color during the dreary winter season.

The cardinal is the official bird of 7 U.S. states.
Kansas is not one of those seven states. :)

Have a great weekend!

Winter Scene Postcard

Happy February!

This beautiful winter scene is from dear Jaana in Finland. We've been swapping cards for the past 4 1/2 years and I have loved every single card that she has picked out for me. :)

BIG thank you, Jaana!

Another cool stamp and fun sticker!

Minnesota Winter Wonderland Postcard

Happy Monday!

Another new card. I love the peaceful beauty of this one. I really got lucky finding cards on a recent trip up north. Sometimes, I can't find one single card ANYwhere, then other times, they seem to be EVERYwhere!

Winter Tubing Postcard

I'm in the mood for this! Looks like fun, doesn't it? Well, fun going down anyway. Not so much fun going back up. All I need is a tube, a mountain, and a lot of snow. :)

Winter Scene Postcard

This lovely postcard just flew in from Finland. I love peaceful wintery scenes, in general, but this one is even better because it features not only reindeer, but the Northern Lights, also!

Three of my favorite postcard topics. :)

Finland has the best stamps!

Thanks very much, Jaana, for another great postcard, stamp and stickers. :)

Lake Champlain Ferry Ride

I needed to get from Vermont to New York. Not knowing the area, I found out that a ferry ride across Lake Champlain was necessary. Having lived a mostly ferry-less life, I was excited about it! Call me nerdy, if you must.

After paying for a ticket/boarding pass, I learned that each vehicle is assigned a lane to wait in.
I was feeling pretty important because I got one entire lane all to myself.

I waited anxiously. And then.....There it was! The loaded ferry from New York was closing in on the docking area.

After getting parked on the ferry, I followed the instructions on the sign, because... well... let's face it, I'm not a rebel.

I stood outside and took pictures like any good, nerdy tourist would do.

I watched the zig-zaggy route that the ferry took through the chunky icy waters on my GPS device. Who wouldn't? Right??

And finally, the ferry safely arrived in New York.
And I drove back onto solid ground in search of another nerdy adventure. :)

Squirrel Staredown

Squirrel and I had a staredown yesterday while s/he feasted on the food that I had put out for the critters.

It was great fun watching the squirrels scurry around and the birds zip back and forth, while waiting for the next round of winter snow to swoop in.

And it did, it swooooped in! What a winter this has been, so far!

Ice Fishing

This postcard depicts people ice fishing in Michigan.

Apparently, this is not an urban legend. It is something that people really do, and not just in Michigan.....

....Recently, I spotted people and vehicles way, way out on the surface of a frozen lake in Vermont. It didn't look like they were playing hockey, so I assume it has something to do with fishing.

First time I have ever seen anything like that!

More From Niagara Falls

Frozen mist from the Falls.

And snow!

Rainbow near the American Falls a little further down river.

And snow!

More frozen mist on the trees.

And snow!

American Falls and Bridal Falls.

The views of all of the falls are MUCH better from the Canadian side of the river.

And snow!

Gift shop and restaurant closed.
No postcards, no souvenirs, but plenty of free snow!

Nikola Tesla, inventor of alternating current induction motor, has a lap full of SNOW!

The original arch entrance to the Adams Station. The world's first hydroelectric power plant. Completed in 1895. Re-erected at the site of Niagara Falls in 1966.

And snow!

Niagara Falls

This is a beautiful, summertime, aerial view of Niagara Falls in all its glory.

And this is a beautiful, mid-winter, from-the-ground view of Niagara Falls in all its cold, blustery glory!
BRRRR!

Steam Locomotive Postcard

This really cold-looking, wintery, steamy, snowy steam locomotive card came choo-chooing in from Oleksandra in Kiev, Ukraine, recently. Love it!

Thanks very much, Oleksandra. :)

Beautiful, beautiful stamps!

Wintry Postcards

DE-1966338
I'm looking forward to spring, but I'm not really ready to let go of winter, either. So, this peaceful winter scene was timely. It was sent by Marion in Germany. I should probably keep it handy to look at in August when it's 100F in the shade.

Well, it was bound to happen. I think this is my first official Postcrossing Touchnote card. I'm torn on the Touchnote controversy. I got this one from Svyatoslav in Russia. I like the picture on the front, but nothing on the backside thrilled me.

Helsinki, Finland Postcard

Here's another lovely postcard from Jaana in Finland that found its way to my mailbox in late December.

This one is a contemporary artsy kind of card.
Very nice!

She always makes sure to put great stamps on her cards. :)

Thanks, again, Jaana!
