Australia Postcard
This beautiful riverside scene in Victoria, Australia, is from another new friend I met through Instagram.
We arranged a 10 person swap and it's been great fun since then! :)
Beautiful stamp!
Thanks very much, Em! :)

Buddha Squirrel Postcard
The third card from Jaana was also mailed from Ylläs - Äkäslompolo which is "In the middle of nowhere," as the front side of the card says. :) And the back side says "Buddha Squirrel". It does look like he is in deep thought!
Ha! Love it!
Another wonderfully interesting stamp.
Many thanks to you, Jaana! :)

A Woman and Her Tuxedo Dog Postcard
It's catch up time on the ol' blog!
I am so late in posting this delightful card from Gerda. She was thoughtful enough and clever enough to surprise me with a card that has not one, not two, but THREE of my favorite topics... dogs, black and white, and humor. :) I love it!!
Sending tons of thanks your way, Gerda!
Belgian stamp commemorating the 150th anniversary of the International Red Cross. :)

Happy Hump Day!
I'm shaking up Hump Day a bit. :)
I don't have a camel photo of my own to use, but I DO have this recently-taken-with-my-own-camera-in-Fargo-North-Dakota super spiffy colorful bison sculpture photo!
He's got a humpy thing on his back, so I'm calling it good!
Happy Hump Day, everyone!

Big Fish On A Stick
I kinda have a thing for oddball roadside attractions. There, I said it. So, this giant fishy got me all excited when I found it in Clarks Grove, Minnesota!
It's a big ol' walleye.
It's fiberglass.
It's 35 years old.
It's had numerous random stickers slapped on it, over the years, by other passersby.
It's so very PERFECT! :)

"No Butts About It" Postcard
Happy Saturday!
I found this punny, cutesy deer postcard in...
wait for it....
INDIANA!
It got me to wondering why aren't there any punny, cutesy snapping turtle postcards?

Baby Reindeer Postcard
Animal lover that I am, I absolutely love this card of a sleeping reindeer calf.
I am truly overwhelmed by Jaana's thoughtfulness and generosity with all the wonderful cards she continues to send my way year after year. :) Lately, they have brought me many much needed smiles.
Thank you very much, Jaana!

Lapland Reindeer Postcard
The very best thing to arrive in my mailbox yesterday was this super
cool card full of reindeer from Jaana! She had been visiting Lapland,
and said it was beautiful. She also took the time, yet again, to mail
the card while she was actually still there. That was so very nice and thoughtful
of her. :)
Big, big thanks, Jaana!
Almost looks like an edible black raspberry stamp. :)

Sketchy Animal Postcards
These animals are either too cute or too regal to be "sketchy", except maybe the frogs. :)
All four cards are from China, such beautiful drawings.
< < Sketchy frogs :)
I truly admire and envy anyone blessed with the talent to create drawings such as these.

Rabbit Rabbit Rabbit
So, this has nothing to do with postcards or road trips, and there's only 2 rabbits in the photo instead of 3 as the title suggests, and it's not the first of the month as pertains to what I'm about to say, BUT, read on anyway, if you have a minute to spare. :)
Yesterday, I heard on the radio that there's a superstition that if you say "rabbit rabbit rabbit" first thing in the morning on the first day of the month, you will have good luck for the remainder of the month.
It's now August 2, so this month is gonna be crappy, I guess. But I'm going to try this on September 1st to see how things turn out. :)

Peek-A-Boo Bear Postcard
:::::dusting off blog cob webs:::::
It's good to be back!
So anyway, I love animals. I love nature. I love humor. Put them all together and it makes for a GREAT postcard!
Jaana sent this super cool card of a bear seemingly playing peek-a-boo, or maybe it's just doing some tree hugging. Who knows??
I DO know that if I were to have an opportunity to snap a photo of something like this, it would be one huge thrill!
Matching bear stamp. :)
Thanks very, very much, Jaana!

Illinois Donkeys
It was really nice to spot these two donkeys relaxing outside at a rural Illinois farm on a recent warm, spring day.
I am sooooo dang happy that winter is done and gone and over and finished and past and ended and concluded!!

Oklahoma Longhorns
Postcard of a good lookin' Longhorn.
Backside of card: "Rescue from extinction"
Beginning in 1927, the Texas Longhorn was preserved by the United States Government on wildlife refuges in Oklahoma and Nebraska.
Here's one I saw up close and personal in Oklahoma some time ago. Such a beautiful animal.

Goat Tower, Findlay, Illinois
I had read about this goat tower, near Findlay, Illinois, on the internet. And I happened to be in that area this week, so I made a little detour to go see it. And I'm glad that I did!
It's on private, fenced-in property, so it's not possible to get a close-up view.
A goat tower is, basically, a fancy goat house. There are only a handful of them in the world. Goats are sure-footed and love to climb, so this is a perfect structure for them.
This one is 31 ft tall, made of 5,000 bricks and has 276 exterior spiral steps.
There are openings at various heights for the goats to enter.
During my visit, there were goats grazing nearby, but none were actually on, or in, the tower, that I could see.
Here is a picture of goats climbing their goat tower in South Africa. ( Goats in the tower by gconard. cc by-nc 2.0)

Unadilla Bill, Nebraska's Official Groundhog
The official Groundhog Day was 2+ weeks ago. Brenda did a nice post on her blog on that day, featuring this very same card.
Since I'm, oftentimes, late for just about everything, it seems fitting that my own Groundhog Day post would be 2+ weeks late!
So, a few months ago, I was lucky enough to be able to make a stop in the tiny town of Unadilla, Nebraka's official Groundhog Capital.
I had hoped to find the real Bill the groundhog that I had read about.....
..... and I did find him, at his home, The Bar, which is a real bar. He had been resting on top of that cooler case in the background.
Unfortunately, Bill, unlike his cousin Phil in Punxsutawney, Pennyslvania, is no longer alive and well.
But still, from what I was told, Bill is a good sport about it, and participates in the town's yearly groundhog parade and festivities on the first Saturday of February.

Panther Postcard
This is one fine looking panther hanging out in Everglades National Park in Florida.
Thanks, Denise, for another fantastic card!
<<< not a panther stamp, not even close. :)
Annnnd, this is the pink panther, Everglades panther's distant cousin, just hanging out wherever. :)

Happy Hump Day!
"Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike! What day is it, Mike?" (Quote from the hilarious Geico "happy as a camel on hump day" TV commercial.)
It's Wednesday aka Hump Day!
I don't have a camel postcard handy, so use your imagination that this adorable black bear cubs card from Cathie in Canada is really a Hump Day camel card. :)
