Elvis Meets President Nixon Postcard

Continuing Elvis' 80th Birthday 2/3 Month...

On December 21, 1970, Elvis requested and was granted a meeting with President Nixon.

I never knew the back story of this meeting, it's bizarre! There are plenty of write-ups about it on the internet, if you're interested.

Smiling Peanut Postcard

Ha Ha! One of these days, I will make it to Plains, Georgia, to see this masterpiece in person!

Backside says: "The smiling peanut stands 13 ft high, and was donated to Plains by Democratic friends. Made of wooden hoops, chicken wire, aluminum foil and polyurethane. It is known worldwide, and has been featured on the TV game show, Jeopardy. It is located on Hwy. 45N about 1/2 mile from the original Jimmy Carter Campaign Headquarters at the town train depot in Plains, Georgia".

(Update of text on card: The Jimmy Carter Peanut is still alive and well after being moved to a different location in Plains, Georgia.)

Newly issued Forever stamp featuring legendary rock guitarist Jimi Hendrix.  At first, I didn't see a connection between the card and the stamp. But, it just dawned on me:  Jimmy Carter, Jimi Hendrix!  Very clever. :)

Thanks a bunch, Denise!

Abraham Lincoln On A Horse Sculpture

Who loves a good statue?!
Anyone?
::::crickets chirping:::
Ok, well *I* do!

I just happened to come across this fine looking statue in Petersburg, Illinois right by New Salem State Park.

It's a depiction of a young Abraham Lincoln reading a book... AND.... he just happened to be riding a horse at the same time!

It's like two statues for the price of one! :D

Inauguration Day & Martin Luther King Jr Day 2013

All politics aside, it's all about the pomp and circumstance of the public swearing-in ceremony of President Obama for his second 4-year term today.

And it's all taking place on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

Outgoing Air Force One Postcard

US-1491507
Back in January, this card went all the way to Fiona in Australia. She said she worked in the aviation industry and requested aviation-related postcards.

When she registered it, she mentioned that she had an upcoming month-long trip to the US in April, and was excited about it. I hope it went well for her!

<----Aviation-related stamps way over there on the left.

Midland, Texas USA

Just a sign that I rolled past yesterday in hot, hot, hot Texas. One of those little "Ah, I did not know that" moments.
And then, one of those "I wonder if they still live there" moments.
And then, one of those "I'm pretty sure they still live somewhere in Texas" moments.
And then, one of those "Dang it, I must look it up now or it will bug me all day" moments.
And then, one of those "Ok, so they live in the Dallas area now. Thank you, Google!" moments.  : )

This is what I mean by "hot, hot, hot". It got as high as 107F, at one point. (40-42C)....and it's only April!
