Historic Round Barn, Route 66, Arcadia, Oklahoma

Recently, I had the chance to visit some places along Route 66 in Oklahoma and Texas.

One of those stops was at the Round Barn in Arcadia, Oklahoma!

I picked up these two postcards there. What a contrast between new and neglected!

The next 3 pics were taken during my visit.

The barn was built in 1898 by William Odor, his family and neighbors, and then restored in 1992 by the Arcadia Historical Society.

There are two levels in the barn. Throughout the years, the upstairs loft has been used for special events, from barn dances to weddings, parties, fundraisers and meetings.

Check out that awesome ceiling! The original builder, William Odor, fashioned rafters from green lumber soaked in water from a nearby river. He believed that a round barn would withstand a tornado.

The lower level once sheltered cattle, mules and hay, but now contains exhibits and a gift shop.

It's well worth a visit if you're ever in the area!

Illinois Donkeys

It was really nice to spot these two donkeys relaxing outside at a rural Illinois farm on a recent warm, spring day.

I am sooooo dang happy that winter is done and gone and over and finished and past and ended and concluded!!
